B.P.R 2,798
So....RM put up a post on the 'scottish greyhound sanctuary' forum about my lurchers accident.... And i got well wishes etc.... had to sign up to view the content (like this forum should be).... Anyway....i put a couple of pictures up of cassie before the accident...running...playing etc.... one of them was with her first catch...a rabbit.... And there was uproar at the photo....even got a message from a mod explaining that the photo was appalling...and placed on some 'watch list' by the mods.... Comments we to the tune of "killing a poor defenceless animal'....and so on..... Now.... looking through that forum.... They do not allow their dogs to be free run....its far to dangerous on their 'thin' legs.... Running a lure is dangerous....it promotes their chase instinct.... Any scarred dog...is a victim of dog fighting..... Hunting with dogs is cruel... All greyhounds MUST be muzzled in public....any smaller dog is potential prey.. And so on.... you get the idea.... I just cant believe some of the shite ive read on there.... They believe sighthounds to be some sort of 'killing machine'.....untrainable to the chase....never to be let off the lead...and a danger to anything smaller than a greyhound...which is pretty much most things.... Now are they all like this? The one greyhound owner ive met....was game for the lure...and his rescued grey broke its foot chasing a deer..... Seems most of them (pet owners)....get their head full of shite...and choose to believe it??? 1 Quote Link to post

B.P.R 2,798
"I don't eat meat actually. I see that as murder as humans are evolved enough to be capable of surviving without killing for food. My dogs do however as dogs are carnivores and haven't evolved enough for them to thrive on a plant based diet. Actively encouraging a dog to chase and kill is wrong! I don't particularly want to debate the issue with you as I've learned with experience that it's not worth my time and people like you are usually a lost cause. I'll just count to 10, hug my babies extra tight and get on with my life. " Quote Link to post

fitchet 788
I had a women walking to of the most unhealthiest running dogs I've ever seen telling me that my collie x should be on a lead as they will chase anything that moves. Me and the mrs just burst out laughing to which she replied "people like you shouldn't be aloud retired racers" which made me laugh even more sending her into a right fit. Whilst she was shouting her mouth off she was interrupted by her 2 dogs nearly pulled her arms out of the sockets at a cat scurrying across the road ... All the time my dogs just sat there not paying a blind bit off notice. She calmed down and looking abit sheepish said "that's why he was taken out of racing he hasn't got any prey drive". I replied that he's a lurcher I've owned him from a pup and he's got plenty of prey drive it's just the dogs been brought up right. My mrs showed here a picture of him ritrieving a rabbit and we spent the next ten minutes talking about training ect. Then I said "sorry got to go its getting abit warm now. All the while her dogs are stood there tounges a yard long. Atb Edited July 25, 2013 by fitchet Quote Link to post
shaaark 10,881
I find the majority of people who have rescue greyhounds to be some of the worst bunny hugger do goody type people I've met, and one of THE worse of that type, who loves everything wildlife, birds of prey, documentaries of cheetas taking down antelope or whatever, was a past ex of mine. If you even mentioned maybe shooting a fox for example, you would need to outrun usain bolt to escape her wrath! I kid you not Quote Link to post
Lab 10,979
The might own a greyhound but there the wrong type to have them.................taking in pat-lickers that never made it, injured dogs or retired ones. They all think the same. My Dad would phone up such places when he had a greyhound he didnt want....they'd say there full.....he say "I'll get it put down then" and then they'd take it......... 1 Quote Link to post
B.P.R 2,798
The wife just reminded me.... Use to take the young lurcher socialisation classes at a local dog training club.... One lady had a fat lurcher.....with boots on... Said lurchers cant sit.....and needed boots because their feet are so soft..... Free running was a NO- GO and walking was minimum.... I said look as the muscle on your dogs back end....which was non existent.....appaling if you ask me..... Then look at my 6 month pup..... She then replied that too much muscle was bad..... Didnt go for too long..... Edited July 25, 2013 by Blue Pocket Rocket 1 Quote Link to post
